If you’re living with persistent back or neck pain, “sciatica” or disc related symptoms, chances are you’ve already tried hands-on treatments, exercise and possibly injections and maybe even been told that you just have to “manage it”.
IDD is a gentle, dynamic and non-invasive treatment that is suitable for anyone over 18 with no upper age limit. IDD is the perfect choice when:

Intervertebral Differential Dynamics (IDD) therapy is one of the fast growing non-invasive treatments for chronic back, neck and leg pain as well as herniated discs and sciatica.
The benefit of IDD therapy is it delivers a much more precise and consistent treatment compared to hand or traction treatments, this can help relieve your pain far sooner.
You may require IDD therapy if the following apply:
Additionally, candidates for IDD therapy must have been experiencing back or neck pain for three months or longer and have not responded to manual therapy, exercise or any other style of treatment.
IDD therapy uses state-of-the-art computer controlled pulling forces that delivered by the Accu SPINA medical device to gently draw apart targeted areas of the spine so pressure can be relieved from specific discs, helping reduce muscle spasms.
By decompressing injured or bulging discs, IDD therapy treatments aim to improve mobility and comfort in the spine as well as allowing for your body’s natural healing mechanisms to operate more efficiently in relieving the pain and discomfort.
Here is a step-by-step process on IDD therapy:
IDD Therapy exists in the space between putting up with pain and going to the extreme of surgery. IDD Therapy is an advanced, computer controlled form of spinal decompression. Unlike traction or generic pulling treatments, IDD uses precise calculations based on your body, your spine and your diagnosis to gently reduce pressure within the affected spinal discs.
This reduction in pressure:
Before beginning the IDD therapy process, patients are fully assessed to ensure they are suitable for the treatment. This assessment includes a review of a current or recent MRI or a suitable scan.
Once approved for treatment, the first session will begin with Thermedic infrared heat therapy on the lower back which ‘warms up’ the muscles and ligaments in the affected area. Patients are required to wear ergonomic harnesses which are connected to the pelvis and upper back, the machine then tilts so that you can get onto the treatment bed without any additional pain or discomfort.
Once you are comfortable, a series of computer controlled pulling forces are gradually applied at precise angles to target the vertebrae surrounding the targeted disc. This process will last around 25 minutes.
Once the area has been targeted successfully, cold therapy is then applied to minimise any temporary soreness which can be caused by muscles being worked in a new way.
As you progress with IDD therapy, gentle exercise and activity are introduced as this is critical for long term pain relief and overall recovery.
At Complete Wellness Collective, our priority is the optimisation of your mobility and making sure that you’re able to restart and feel your best.

No, generally you do not need a referral from a doctor for IDD therapy but you can be recommended IDD therapy by your GP.
We will need to review a current or recent MRI or similar scan. If you do not have a scan, our team can complete this.
IDD therapy treatment is designed for long term pain relief. By the end of your treatment, you should be able to continue with your day-to-day life whilst caring for your back correctly.
Yes, IDD therapy is very safe and gentle. Patients feel relaxed during treatment but please note that you are required to wear a ergonomic harness to support your body. This fits over your clothing but you must remain fully clothed during the treatment.
It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily and doesn’t restrict your movement. We don’t recommend wearing any clothing that is tight or restrictive.
Typically, you will not feel any additional pain. You may experience some temporary soreness which is a positive sign as it shows that your muscles have been worked in a new way but the cold therapy at the end of the IDD therapy should help limit any soreness.
Patients usually have a series of treatments spread over a number of weeks. As all conditions are different, these is not a set number of treatments you require. Treatment is recommended until you feel pain relief and increased comfort.
You are eligible for IDD therapy even if you have had surgery as long as this was not within the last 6 months and it is completely healed. If you have had surgical implants, you may not be eligible for IDD treatment.
Yes, the end goal of IDD therapy is to improve mobility and relieve pain so you can continue with your day-to-day life. As treatment progresses, gentle exercises will be recommended and you will be shown how to properly look after your back.
Yes, however you are recommended to not travel for longer than 30 minutes as this could be counterproductive to the therapeutic effects of the IDD therapy.
